Industrial sources

Eckert & Ziegler Cesio manufactures sealed radioactive sources with Cs-137 and Co-60 emitting high-energy gamma radiation, Am-241 emitting low-energy gamma radiation and X-rays, Am-241/Be sources emitting neutron radiation, Kr-85 emitting beta radiation and foil radioactive sources with Am-241 emitting alpha particles.

Sealed radioactive sources with Cs-137 and Co-60 are primarily used as high-energy gamma sources in level gauges and material thickness measuring gauges in industrial plants, some models of Cs-137 sources are designed for use in well logging applications.

Sealed sources containing Am-241 are applied in X-ray fluorescence analysis of materials. Especially suitable for this purpose are Am-241 radioactive sources with an output window made of Beryllium enabling the emission of X-rays and low-energy gamma radiation. Low-energy gamma radiation of Am-241 is used in level gauges for scanning of the content of small objects, such as beverage cans and bottles, and also in thickness measuring gauges, as it allows to measure materials with lower area density compared to gauges fitted with Cs-137 and Co-60 sources.

Neutron radiation of radioactive sources with Am-241/Be is used for oil well logging, calibration of neutron measuring devices, as well as for determination of moisture in soil and in building materials in agriculture and construction industry, respectively. Am-241/Be sources also find use in education and research projects at universities.

Radioactive sources with Kr-85 are suitable particularly for beta thickness gauging, including measurement of very thin materials such as plastic, thin metal sheets, textiles and rubber. The emission of beta radiation is enabled through a specially designed thin output window with the thickness of 0.025 mm or 0.05 mm.

Foil radioactive sources with Am-241 contain americium homogeneously dispersed in gold mounted on a silver backing. Alpha particles are emitted from the source surface through a front cover made of gold or gold-palladium alloy. Foil sources are used in smoke detectors and in electrostatic charge eliminators.
